The Naturopathic Principles
Naturopathic nutrition is the practice of nutritional therapy within the context of naturopathic medicine. It is distinguished by the guiding principles that underlie and determine naturopathic practice:
- The healing power of nature
- recognising the body's inherent ability to heal.
- Identify the cause - seek to identify the cause of an illness/imbalance rather than merely suppressing symptoms. To achieve optimal health we must aim to understand the root cause
- Do no harm - never use interventions that cause other conditions.
- Support the whole individual
- When preparing a nutritional protocol, an individuals physical, emotional, social, genetic and environmental state are all taken into account. This is the foundation of holistic health.
- Therapist as educator
- empower others by teaching self-care techniques to encourage them to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
- Prevention - encourage the promotion of a healthy lifestyle before an illness or imbalances has occurred.
